I work with the elementary youth group at our church. It’s called SPRING – and we’re always on the
lookout for creative ways to interact with the Bible, each other, and the
community.
In November we tried something we hadn’t done before – a
Give Him S’More Praise Night.
My husband built a fire pit beside the church parking lot,
and on our chosen night a man from our church came and built a bonfire for
us. A member of our worship team, a
local high school senior, brought his guitar to lead us in singing praise. A few women took charge of the refreshment
table and doled out toasting sticks, hot chocolate, and marshmallows to
everyone.
For about an hour we played and sang and made s’more after
s’more. The air was crisp, the fire hot,
and the marshmallows sweet, gooey, and often burnt; but the company was
wonderful. There were preschoolers and
high school students there; single retirees and families, but for just a little
while we were one. One group of people
worshipping the God we love. One group
of friends bonding over a bonfire and sweets.
One group of His chosen people just being together.
I can’t wait until the next one.
