I write this morning with a stuffy nose and a slight headache.
Nope, I'm not sick - I finally saw Courageous last night.
From the opening scenes, this movie is designed to make you face the harsh realities of this world. At the same time, the Kendrick humor so evident in the other Sherwood movies shines through, so you might need only half a box of tissues instead of a whole one - but the four police officers in this movie face real life, and it's hard.
What makes this movie stand out from most is that it doesn't stop there. You don't see the rough side of life, the bad side of people, and then move on. The creators of the movie - the Kendrick brothers of Sherwood Baptist - showcase how each man processes life events. You get to see the good, the bad, the ugly, and the best. You see them make mistakes, learn from them, and grow.
You can't help but compare the movie to your own life. They want you to. Are you a man who's courageous enough to step up and lead your family when life gets hard? Will you walk the tough line to protect your daughter, to lead your son, to guide your wife through both the good and the bad?
Watching this movie, I was thankful for how hard my husband works to be the kind of man who does lead our family. There are also a few things I'd love to see him do - isn't that always the case? But rather than keep quiet about it or harp about it or even mention it at all, I want to start praying about it. That's an area where I often fall short.
If, like me, you want to commit to praying for the men in your life, you can download and print free prayer cards from the Better Life Bags Blog. These cards are based on the "31 Days of Prayer for your Husband" by Nancy Leigh DeMoss and can be personalized with your husband's name. They're even pretty!
Rarely do I care enough about a movie to go see it on the big screen, but this one is a must-see. Take the time to enjoy it on the big screen with all of the fancy effects. Put your money where your beliefs are and show Sherwood that you support their efforts to spread the word of God. Show Hollywood that we need more movies like this. Go see it.
I'm going to have to look for this one. Thank you for reviewing it.
